About Amanda

I am a dog behaviourist and trainer with over 30 years' experience and, at 53, a lifetime of observational knowledge.

For as long as I can remember, I've had an affinity with dogs; an innate understanding of their behaviour, social needs and subsequent security and balance they so obviously feel when their living environment matches those needs. Growing up predominantly with packs of German Shepherds, the odd rescue collie and occasionally the 'what is it?' jack-of-all-breeds, I was at liberty to observe these large groups of dogs on a daily basis. The unspoken dynamics of a well-balanced pack or family seemed more valuable to a dog's well-being than any toy, scrumptious treat or even an owner's love.

Having an innate ability is all well and good, but I wanted to understand how and why it worked. Through a journey of knowledge seeking and discovery, from decades of wolf study by Mech, to Lorenz's pioneering work on animal psychology, I was finally able to understand my gift with 'man's best friend'. I was now confident I could use this to bring canine chaos to order and dramatically improve the lives of dogs and their owners.

"Understanding The Wolf Within" is the premise of my practice; teaching owners how to establish a well balanced pack (or family unit) and understanding where and how your dog needs to fit in in order to reduce stress and anxiety for all and bring lasting calm and harmony to your home.

Disclaimers:

I never use aggressive or violent training tools or techniques favoured by some trainers; in my opinion they are inhumane, cruel and demonstrate instability, which can introduce undesirable behaviours.

Additionally, I have never and will never recommend a dog be put to sleep unless the behaviour is caused by an irreparable physiological injury or condition.
